Michael is 17 days today!!! T minus count is now 95
Our camera is not very good, we have to fix that...
They finally turned off the black lights for the jaundice and he does not have to wear the bandage around his head anymore. His skin also looks much better now.I feel like I can finally get to meet my son, now that he has some more skin exposed. He even started opening his eyes a tiny bit today. They should open within the next few days. That is so exciting. Another exciting thing is that they might start feeding him my breast milk as of tomorrow. That means that he finally might start growing!! He was 580 grams at birth and 560 grams this week when they weighed him for the first time. That wasn't that bad.The PDA (hole in the heart) is almost closed and they will check again in a few days. He was on room air, so that is a good sign!
This little tiny fighting human being is the love of my life. I have never felt like this before. It breaks my heart to see what he has to go through. He has to stay strong and get through these first critical weeks. We hear a lot of success stories. That definitely gives us some faith!

Welcome to the blogging world! Thanks for posting the link on Babycenter - I'll enjoy checking up on your little guy. Such special days in the NICU. Noah opened his eyes on June 18th (he was born May 30th). The nurse called us and scared us to death because we thought it was bad news! Tell little Michael to grow, grow, grow!

I'm so impressed with Michael's progress! I've shared with you a little of Morgan's (10-10-91, 27 weeks gestation, 630 grams) story so you know you aren't alone in your worry for Michael's future and your love for your precious baby boy. Fortunately, God loves him more than you and is the ultimate "parent." He is holding him when you can't, He is comforting him when you can't, He is loving him and keeping him in his protection in ways that you can't. All parents love their children with an unmatchable passion but parents of premies have seen how delicately balanced life is and have an even deeper bond and understanding with their child. My baby was faced with many obstacles: retinopathy of prematurity, PDA, grade IV bleed, BPD, mild pulmonary valve stenosis, mild CP, and several surgeries. She's as normal as a 15 year old can be (are any teenagers normal?? LOL) Best of all, my "baby" is praying for your baby...be encouraged by our story and know that even through terrifying times, God's love covers you with His hand of protection. He never leaves your side and He never leaves Michael's heart. Love to both of you, Juli
