So, today Michael took his second trip outside the NICU. The hospital has a big renovation and all the windows are being replaced. For the next 10 days or so, this means that the NICU has to be shut down and a temporary NICU opened up in another building in the hospital. The doctors and nurses had to move Michael, which mean unhooking the respirator and "bagging" him, which means the doctor mechanically vented him by hand, using a little hand respirator, which is the same thing they did when Michael was first born, before he was intubated in the NICU.
He's now settled into his new temporary home, which seems like an old ICU. We were a bit nervous about the move but all went well.
